Swimming in cold water
A few protocols to try for racing in cold swims.
In the last few years, one of the challenges I’ve had in swimrun races has been discomfort in cold water during the swims. As most of these races take place in cold conditions (in the sea in Sweden and in mountain lakes in Switzerland, for example), it’s important to be prepared for the cold water.
Until now, my focus has been on using good equipment and doing some training in race conditions leading up to the races. However, Ben suggested that I try some cold-water adaptation this winter, so I’ve been doing some research on that. This is what I’ve found so far.
