Perception of effort definitely (running the marathon section). We did an 18-mile run yesterday in preparation for IM Arizona. My pace is always different depending on the weather, as well as nutrition 24-48 prior, and current training fatigue. We all have an idea of what we’d like to run in a marathon at the end of an Ironman, but you never really know what the day is going to give you until you get out there on course and see what you have to work with.
