My top 3 from JUNE

  1. Keep your easy runs truly easy as even significantly below the aerobic threshold still provides the right stimulus. Trained runners who trained 10-15% below their first lactate threshold achieved the same neuromuscular and performance improvements as those training at it.

  2. Use trail supershoes on fast, smooth trails, but stick to comfort on technical terrain. Trail supershoes produced ~1% improvement in running economy compared to traditional trail shoes, far below the 2.7-4% seen on the road, likely because of slower trail speeds rather than the surface itself. For technical trails, choose the shoe you feel most confident in.

  3. Don’t rely on a single training monitoring tool. No single metric is sufficiently accurate or sensitive alone. Combining multiple tools, including both perceived exertion and physiological measures, improves diagnostic capacity meaningfully.
